Appointments & Planning

Yes — our salon is by appointment only. This ensures each bride enjoys an intimate, personalized experience with our full attention. Appointments are 90 minutes and available Tuesday through Saturday, giving you plenty of time to explore our collection of gowns and accessories in a private, relaxed setting. We encourage booking early, as our calendar tends to fill quickly.

To book an appointment, simply click the “Request Appointment” button on the website and fill out the form with your details and preferred date. Once submitted, the salon will follow up to confirm your appointment, as all visits are scheduled in advance for a personalized experience.

Your first appointment is a private, 90-minute experience at our Charlottesville boutique. Here's how it typically unfolds:
Your stylist sits down with you to learn about your wedding — the venue, the vibe, and the feeling you want to capture in your gown.
Based on your conversation, your stylist selects a curated group of gowns for you to try.
You'll work through the options at your own pace, with your stylist guiding and adjusting along the way.
Your guests share their reactions and you take time to process how each gown makes you feel.
If you find the one during your first visit, we can move forward with measurements and ordering the same day. If you need more time, a follow-up appointment is always an option. There are no other brides in the salon during your appointment. The space, the mirrors, and our full attention are entirely yours.

We recommend starting your wedding dress search 10 to 12 months before your wedding date. This gives you enough time to shop thoughtfully, place your order, wait for production (4 to 6 months for most designers), and complete alterations without any pressure. If you're less than 6 months from your date, don't wait — contact us right away and we'll discuss what's realistic, including rush order options and any off-the-rack gowns that might work for your timeline.

We encourage you to bring two to three loved ones whose opinions you trust most. A smaller group allows the focus to stay on you and how you feel in each gown, making the experience more meaningful and relaxed. If you’d like to bring a larger party or need special accommodations, please let us know ahead of time so we can ensure everything is comfortable for you and your guests.

Inspiration is always welcome — whether it’s photos you’ve saved, a Pinterest board, or simply a feeling you want to capture. Nude-toned undergarments you’re comfortable in are best, as your stylist will assist you in and out of gowns. Heels aren’t necessary — we want you to move with ease and focus on the emotions each gown evokes. Most of all, bring an open mind — many brides find themselves falling in love with a gown they never expected. We kindly ask that you avoid heavy makeup or spray tans to help protect our sample gowns.

Yes — many of our brides travel to The One Bridal Salon from Richmond, Harrisonburg, Staunton, Lynchburg, Culpeper, Northern Virginia, and the Washington, DC area. The private, one-at-a-time experience we offer is something many brides can't find in larger markets, and we're happy to work with out-of-town guests to make the trip worthwhile. If you're traveling a distance, please mention it when booking and we'll do our best to accommodate a longer appointment or schedule your visit in a way that allows you to make a day of it in downtown Charlottesville.

Absolutely. We understand this is one of the most meaningful decisions of your wedding planning process, and we never want you to feel rushed. If you need more time or want to revisit a specific gown, we're happy to schedule a follow-up appointment. We do ask that you book in advance rather than walking in, as our calendar is held for scheduled appointments only. Just reach out and we'll find a time that works.

The partnership we have with our friends across the street at Bottle House is a great way to add something fun to your appointment. Simply choose the wine or champagne you would like and let them know how many glasses you’ll need. They’ll deliver everything directly to the salon so it is chilled and waiting for you when you arrive, and we’ll take care of the glasses afterward.

Our in-store sample gowns currently range from sizes 8–22, and because the majority of our gowns are special ordered for each bride, our available ordering sizes extend well beyond the samples hanging in the salon. Depending on the designer and gown, dresses can be ordered in sizes 0–32.
We strive to build a collection that allows as many brides as possible to see themselves in the dresses they try on and to feel beautiful, confident, and included while finding the one.
Gowns & Pricing

Our designer wedding gowns range from $1,500-$6,500, with most between $2,200 and $3,400. We’ll help guide you toward options that align with your budget and vision.

We carry a curated selection of designer bridal gowns, including Caroline Castigliano, Jenny Yoo, Paloma Blanca, Mikaella, Evie Young, Eddy K, and Pronovias. Our collection is intentionally refined to offer modern, timeless styles without overwhelming choices.

Our sample gowns range from size 8 to size 22, offering a variety of silhouettes to try on during your appointment. While samples may not fit exactly, please don’t let that be a worry — it’s completely normal. Our stylists are experienced in using clips, panels, and creative styling techniques to help you envision the gown in your size. The focus of your appointment is not the fit of the sample, but how you feel in the gown — and we’re here to ensure you feel confident, beautiful, and supported every step of the way.

We have a limited selection of gowns available off the rack. Please contact us for current availability.

While we don’t carry every gown from each designer’s full collection, we may be able to request a specific style for your appointment. If the dress is available, we can bring it in on loan for a $200 non-refundable fee per gown. Please give us a call to check availability — we’ll do our best to make it possible for you to see the dress you’ve been dreaming about.
Ordering & Payment

Once you’ve found your gown, we’ll take your measurements and compare them to the designer’s size chart to determine the best size to order. All wedding dresses are made to order, and alterations are expected to ensure a perfect fit.

Most wedding dresses take 4–6 months to arrive, so we recommend starting your dress shopping about 11 months before your wedding. This allows time for delivery and alterations. If you’re on a shorter timeline, many of our designers offer rush orders for an additional fee.

Once you’ve found the one, payment in full is required at the time of order, and we accept all major credit cards. Because our wedding gowns and accessories are special ordered, we cannot accept returns, exchanges, or cancellations. Please also anticipate alterations for a perfect fit.

While The One Bridal Salon does not carry mother-of-the-bride or mother-of-the-groom dresses, Charlottesville has several wonderful local boutiques where the mothers and other wedding guests can find something beautiful for the celebration. We recommend:
Located just down West Main Street from The One, Eloise offers a thoughtfully edited collection of dresses, clothing, shoes, and accessories from both emerging and established designers. Its colorful, fashion-forward selection is a lovely option for the mother who wants something distinctive, polished, and a little unexpected.
Located at Barracks Road, Scarpa is known for its beautifully curated collection of designer clothing, shoes, jewelry, and accessories. With an emphasis on thoughtful craftsmanship, timeless design, and pieces that feel both refined and interesting, Scarpa is an excellent destination for sophisticated wedding-weekend style.
Located at The Shops at Stonefield, Poshabilities carries an extensive selection of dresses, clothing, shoes, bags, and jewelry. Their approachable team and variety of occasion-ready styles make Poshabilities a wonderful place to shop for mother-of-the-bride or mother-of-the-groom attire in Charlottesville. Each boutique offers its own point of view, giving the mothers and special guests in your life several local options for finding a look that feels just right for the wedding day.

As a small, appointment-only salon, each booking reserves a private space and stylist. We require a card on file, and a $50 fee applies if appointments are not canceled at least one hour in advance.
Alterations & Care

Alterations are not provided in-house, but we’ll guide you every step of the way. We maintain a trusted list of talented local seamstresses, including our top recommended expert, as well as others our brides have loved. When you pick up your gown, we’ll walk you through the adjustments it may need so you feel confident heading into your fittings.

Alteration costs vary depending on what your gown needs, but brides typically spend between $800 and $1400 on alterations. Common needs include hem adjustments based on shoe height, bustle work for the reception, and taking in or letting out the bodice. We don't provide alterations in-house, but we'll walk you through exactly what your gown will need at pickup and connect you with our trusted network of local seamstresses so you can budget accordingly.

Yes. We offer professional dress steaming to prepare your gown for your wedding day, ensuring it arrives at the altar looking its absolute best. We also work with trusted preservation partners for post-wedding gown care. Proper preservation protects your gown from yellowing and fabric damage over time — whether you're planning to pass it down, display it, or simply keep it as a keepsake. Ask about steaming and preservation options when you pick up your gown.
